1Kempsey Post Office
Completed in March 1886, Kempsey Post Office is a Victorian Italianate building designed by the Colonial Architect's Office under James Barnet. Its original quarters included a residence and clock tower. Still run by Australia Post, it was added to the NSW State Heritage Register in December 2000.
2St Andrew's Presbyterian Church and Hall, Kempsey
Built in 1890 in the Gothic Revival style for £600, this stuccoed brick church with a corrugated-iron roof replaced a timber schoolhouse converted to a church in 1884. Inside are a carved timber-lined scissor-truss roof and original stained glass. Presbyterians worshipped here until 1984; it later became a retail store.
3Kempsey railway station
Opened on 3 December 1917 when the line reached it from Wauchope, this station was the terminus until the track extended to Macksville in 1919. A December 1939 fire gutted the parcels office and badly damaged the booking office, waiting room and signal cabin. Heritage-listed, it still serves XPT trains toward Sydney and Brisbane.
4Macleay River railway bridge, Kempsey
Opened on 3 December 1917, this steel Pratt truss bridge carries the North Coast railway across the Macleay River on three 61-metre spans plus two shorter plate girder spans. Its steelwork was built at Newcastle's Walsh Island Dockyard and shipped by sea. Damaged in the 1949-50 floods, raised about a metre in 1966, and heritage-listed in 1999.
