1Maryborough Town Hall
Designed by prolific Melbourne architect George Johnson and built by George Clayfield Senior, this town hall had its foundation stone laid in June 1887 and opened with a grand ball in July 1888. A largely intact provincial town hall, it is prized for its gallery and painted ceiling, and sits within Maryborough's Civic Square.
2Maryborough Post Office (Victoria)
Built in 1876-77 to a design by John Hudson Marsden of the Public Works Department, this rendered-brick Italianate palazzo landmark once combined a court house, post and telegraph office, and colonial offices. Its clock tower was added in 1879. Post-only since 1892, it joined the Commonwealth Heritage List in 2011.
3Maryborough Court House
Designed in 1892 by Public Works Department architect Samuel Bindley and opened in April 1893, this is reputedly the only Victorian court house in the Federation Free Classical style. The brick and rendered building, among the largest outside Melbourne, is on the Victorian Heritage Register and National Trust classified.
4Belltower, Maryborough Fire Station
Built in 1888 for the Maryborough Volunteer Fire Brigade, this square brick tower has a wide arched base, battered walls and diagonally placed windows beneath an arcaded belfry, topped by an unusually tall timber superstructure. One of few surviving Victorian fire towers, it adjoins the 1861 station, now the Central Goldfields Art Gallery, on the Victorian Heritage Register.
5Maryborough Municipal Olympic Swimming Complex
Opened in December 1940 by champion swimmer Frank Beaurepaire, then Lord Mayor of Melbourne, this complex was designed by local architect EJ Peck with city engineers Muntz and Hocking. Its functionalist entrance pavilion, Olympic pool and octagonal wading pool make it a rare, intact inter-war municipal pool on the Victorian Heritage Register.
