1Tweed Regional Museum, Murwillumbah
Housed in Murwillumbah's original 1915 Shire Council Chambers, the Tweed Regional Museum reopened in August 2014 after a contemporary display wing was joined to the restored heritage building. Its collection holds over 15,000 objects and 50,000 images tracing the Tweed's history, geology and Aboriginal culture across deep time.
2Murwillumbah Old Cemetery
Murwillumbah's original general cemetery served the Tweed Valley from 1877 until its closure in 1977. Late in the 1970s it became a sacred park: headstones were removed and the names of all 2,348 people buried here were inscribed on plaques at an entrance gazebo, beside a Tweed Shire Council pioneer monument.
3Skinner Lowes Wharf
This wharf in Nicholl Park recalls Skinner, Lowes & Co, the Tweed River shipping firm formed in 1913 when the Skinner brothers partnered with their brother-in-law Captain Frank Lowes, incorporating in 1920. Their steamers carried mail, passengers and freight to Tweed Heads until the S.S. Mebbin's final run in February 1934.
4Murwillumbah railway station
Opened on 24 December 1894 as the terminus of the line from Casino, this station saw its last train on 16 May 2004 when the route closed. Added to the NSW State Heritage Register in 1999, its yard includes an 1894 goods shed and c.1926 pre-cast concrete buildings. It now serves as a NSW TrainLink booking office and tourist information centre.
